Nebraska Volleyball breaks world record attendance for female sporting events

Five-time NCAA champions, the Nebraska Huskers volleyball team, broke the world record for the largest women’s sports event attendance on “Volleyball Day in Nebraska.” 92,003 spectators flocked to Memorial Stadium on August 30th to witness a match between former NCAA champions, Nebraska Huskers and Omaha. In addition to breaking a world record, the fourth-ranked Huskers won the game against Omaha 3-0.

On August 30, the Huskers made history by breaking numerous sporting records. The following are the records the former NCAA champions broke:

  • The 2022 NCAA volleyball attendance record of 18,755 spectators that the Huskers held
  • The 1999 U.S. attendance record for a women’s sporting event of 90,185 spectators
  • The 2014 Memorial Stadium record of 91,585 spectators
  • The 2022 world attendance record for a women’s sporting event of 91,648 spectators

These are not the only records the Huskers broke in women’s sporting events. The Huskers have kept an impressive sellout streak of 306 consecutive regular season volleyball games dating back to 2001. Additionally, the team has been ranked no. 1 102 times, which is more than any other NCAA volleyball team.

Perhaps the most impressive factor of the Nebraska-Omaha game is that the stakes of the game were not incredibly high, yet the team managed to break record attendance numbers. The NCAA volleyball season had recently started, and Nebraska was ranked no. 5. Nevertheless, the team garnered an impressive number of fans to cheer them on for “National Volleyball Day in Nebraska.”

The 92,003 spectators witnessed history in the making and barriers breaking for all women’s sports and female athletes. The Nebraska Huskers have continuously broken barriers and set records that encourage all women’s sports teams. August 30th will not only go down as a historic day for the Nebraska Huskers volleyball team but will also be known as a historic day for all women’s sports teams.
