MLB Player Props: 3 Pitcher Strikeout Prop Best Bets for Wednesday, Sept. 14

By Ryan Gilbert

MLB Pitcher Strikeout Props #1: Dunning deals

Dane Dunning (TEX) over 3.5 strikeouts (-160 @ DraftKings) vs. OAK

Dunning has been one of my go-to strikeout prop pitchers this season, especially recently. He’s gone over 3.5 strikeouts in 21 of his 27 starts, including both starts against Oakland (five on May 29th, four on August 18th).

Dunning averages over four strikeouts per start and the Athletics are among the bottom-third of the league in terms of strikeout rate. The Rangers righthander has 4+ strikeouts in eight of his last nine starts overall.

He’s been incredible at home this season with 4+ strikeouts in 13 of 14 starts, including 5+ in 10 and 6+ in six. Don’t be afraid to go for over 4.5 strikeouts (+108 @ FanDuel)

MLB Pitcher Strikeout Props #2: Stripling streaking

Ross Stripling (TOR) over 3.5 strikeouts (-143 @ Unibet) vs. TB

Stripling is on a strikeout streak. He’s gone over 3.5 strikeouts in each of his last six starts, and eight of his last nine as well. In that span he had 5+ strikeouts in seven of those outings, including 6+ in six of them.

The Rays strike out the fifth-most in the league against right-handed pitching. And although Stripling only had three strikeouts against them back in July, he had 12 (7 and 5) against them last season.

This is another situation where I would look at the over 4.5 strikeouts (+130 @ FanDuel) as well given Stripling’s streak.

MLB Pitcher Strikeout Props #3: Sonny strikeouts

Sonny Gray (MIN) over 4.5 strikeouts (-159 @ Unibet) vs. KC

The Royals were no-hit for seven innings by Tuesday night’s starter Joe Ryan, who racked up nine strikeouts on the evening. Given Kansas City’s struggles, Gray getting five strikeouts doesn’t seem that challenging.

Gray has 5+ strikeouts in seven of his last nine starts, including 10 last month against these same Royals. Overall on the season, he’s gotten over 4.5 strikeouts in 12 of 22 starts, but I think he’ll easily get there tonight against a team like Kansas City.
