Mbappe: To leave or not to leave PSG, that is the question

Kylian Mbappe joined Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco in 2017. Since joining the Ligue 1 team, he has scored 156 goals in 205 games. Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave PSG for free. Real Madrid are desperately trying to sign the 23-year-old star. He has already rejected numerous contract offers from his current club.

According to Le Parisien, PSG are willing to offer the striker a new two-year contract which would make him the highest-paid player in the world, making £800,000 a week after tax. This article also claimed that Mbappe would receive a signing bonus of £83 million to remain at the french club.

This offer apparently came after Mbappe hinted he would stay longer at PSG to overtake club record goalscorer Edinson Cavani who scored 200 goals. The 23-year old said, “Being PSG’s top scorer is something that cannot be ignored. We’ll see what happens.”

Mbappe’s upcoming test

When asked about the upcoming Real Madrid vs PSG Champions League Round of 16 clash on Wednesday, Mbappe said: “People talk about me and my future – it is normal, but as a player of Paris Saint-Germain, I will give everything I have. I can confirm that my future has not been decided and this game with Real Madrid will not change anything.”

PSG sporting director Leonardo’s crazy offer to the young star seems like a desperate bid to stop Mbappe signing with Spanish giants at the end of the season. However these rumours have been put to bed when Leonardo said: “This is not true. No concrete offer has been made,’ he added. ‘There is an important element: I think the last thing we will put in this contract will be money. We want to put it in the best conditions for him to become the best possible player.”

In the Zone

Mbappe welcomed 2022 with new found motivation. Surprisingly to the PSG staff, he arrived a day earlier to training after the brief Christmas break. He showed up early for his own session when none of his teammates were due back until the next day.

It’s clear that the Frenchmen knows the next 12 months are crucial for him, with a potential first Champions League win with PSG & second World Cup win, a possible club move, and lots of records he could break. This is an extremely exciting time for the young striker.
