Kane off to the Red Devils?
This week, there have been speculations that Manchester United are very keen to sign Tottenham Hotspurs’ Harry Kane. It seems United are looking for a successor to Cristiano Ronaldo and they think Kane could be their man.
Spurs star striker Kane joined Spurs academy back in 2009. He made his League One debut for Spurs when he was 17 years-old. The now 28-year-old is potentially looking elsewhere in order to finally win himself a trophy. Kane nearly signed with Manchester City last summer however, the move never materialised.
Blue or Red?
Pep blamed Tottenham for Kane not joining City last summer. He believed he did everything he could to prise Kane from the North London club.
He said, “It is understandable. Tottenham didn’t want to talk so we didn’t talk. The moment they open the door, maybe we will see. Maybe they say we want £200million, we will not pay £200 million for one reason: because we don’t have it. So we tried to open the door to negotiate but the big master of the big negotiation Daniel Levy knows everything, and he would not do it.”
After Spurs beat City 3-2, with a fantastic display from Kane, there were rumours regarding the club’s interest in trying to sign the Englishman again. However, City seems to have signing Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Harland as their top priority this summer.
Spurs took a 3-2 loss to Manchester United last week. Ronaldo managed to score a hat-trick after he wasn’t even on the bench for the recent Manchester Derby. United interim manager Ralf Rangnick accepted that in order for United to stay at a top level, they need to be in the market for a new striker.
Rangnick said, “Edison [Cavini]’s contract is running out in the summer, and the club needs the best possible centre forward. This is an obvious one. I think everyone is aware of that.” It has been made clear that the Red Devils have their sights set on Kane, especially as Ronaldo, 37, and Cavani, 35, are coming to the end of their career soon.
Former Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino is on United’s shortlist for their next permanent manager. The Argentine is currently at Paris Saint-Germain, but his future there is extremely uncertain. Kane always liked Pochettino and this could help attract him to United. Pochettino has made it clear from his side that if he became United’s manager he wants to reunite with Kane.
Ronaldo vs Kane
Let’s say Kane decides to exit Tottenham in the summer and join United. Kane would finally link up with one of his inspirations, Ronaldo. When Spurs played Real Madrid in the Champions League Kane asked for Ronaldo’s shirt. He said, “I asked for his shirt. He’s a big role model of mine, watching him when I was growing up.” How would Kane and Ronaldo work together on the same side?
