Can Chelsea win back to back Trophies?
With Chelsea playing their first leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League tonight, the question is can they win the Trophy two seasons in a row? Chelsea are up against LOSC Lille in the first leg tonight at Stamford Bridge
Club World Cup Winners
Chelsea reached a great achievment earlier this month, beating Palmeiras in the finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. This is their first ever Club World Cup, making them the eighth European winners of the coveted Trophy.
However, since returning to the Premier League as World Champions, they haven’t been in their best form. The Blues have faced problems such as jet-lag, illness, and injuries that have disrupted the squad availability for upcoming games.
Manager Thomas Tuchel insists that this blip won’t last long and soon they will rediscover their fluidity and freedom. This came after Chelsea struggled to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday.
Could Chelsea repeat?
Even though Chelsea are winning their games, they have a lot of room for improvement if they want to lift the Champions League Trophy two seasons in a row, especially in terms of scoring goals. Despite their issues, Chelsea are getting a lot more results than their opponents Lille. It seems safe to assume that they will go through to the Quarter-Finals of the competition.
If Chelsea do progress they’ll still have a difficult road to glory. They stand about a 10% chance of winning the final. The favourites to win the tournament this season is Manchester City with an approximate 27% chance. City is followed by Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Ajax before reaching the previous Champions.
There was speculation about Chelsea losing some players in the second leg of the competition because French Covid restrictions are very strict and Chelsea seem to have numerous unvaccinated players. However, due to the rules easening recently, It seems that Chelsea’s unvaccinated players may be able to travel and not quarantine.
