Bayern, PSG crowned league champions

Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain stormed to the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 titles on Saturday, but both teams could be braced to lose out on their main talismans in the upcoming summer.

Bayern Munich bagged a tenth successive Bundesliga title – and 32nd overall – as they beat out Der Klassiker rivals Borussia Dortmund, 3-1, to crown Julian Nagelsmann’s team German champions with three games to spare. Bayern have accrued 75 points from 31 games and are 12 points clear of 2nd-placed Dortmund. Bayern become the first team in Europe’s to five leagues to clinch ten consecutive championships.

Robert Lewandowski has scored a league-high 33 goals this term but the Polish striker may be approaching the final months of his Bayern career. Lewandowski, 33, has been heavily linked with a move away from Bavaria with FC Barcelona circling for his signature. Lewandowski has spent the bulk of his senior career in Germany, making a combined 559* appearances for Bayern and Dortmund. The centre-forward is nearing the end of his eighth season in Bayern colours which may signal the curtain call of his time in the Bundesliga.

When questioned by the media Lewandowski did not reveal where he will be playing his football next season, but said a decision would be made in due course.

PSG, meanwhile, secured the Ligue 1 crown for an eighth time in a decade and its tenth French top-flight title overall. The Parisians drew 1-1 with Lens which was enough to hand Mauricio Pochettino his first league trophy as a manager. With four matches remaining, PSG have a 16-point cushion over Marseille.

The trio of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Neymar have netted a joint 36 league goals, with 22 of those coming from Mbappé alone. Mbappé is out of contract in less than three months and Real Madrid are poised to sign him on a free transfer ahead of next season. Mbappé has openly flirted with the idea of switching to Los Blancos but the 23-year-old French attacker is yet to openly declare if he will move to the Santiago Bernabéu in the coming months.

PSG have reportedly offered Mbappé a bumper new deal however it remains to be seen whether it will suffice to turn his head away from signing with Madrid, who themselves are within four points of claiming a record 34th LaLiga title.

Should Lewandowski and Mbappé both complete moves to their expected destinations in Spain, the El Clásico derby could be braced for fireworks similar to the days of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
