Why the San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox Will Win Today

New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres

The New York Mets (37-19, 34-22 RL, 28-24-4 O/U) battle the San Diego Padres (33-21, 30-24 RL, 22-29-2 O/U)  in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday evening. The Mets will have Taijuan Walker looking to rebound from his first loss. The Padres will counter with Yu Darvish. The Mets went 4-3 against the Padres last season.

Walker Seeks Rebound After First Loss

Taijuan Walker will get the start for the ninth time of the season on Tuesday. Walker was effective in his previous effort, conceding two runs in 5.2 innings against the Dodgers, but received zero run support and took the loss. The veteran right-hander has conceded two or fewer runs in three consecutive starts and is sporting a stellar 2.88 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP accompanied by a 3-1 record in 40.2 innings pitched on the year. Walker squandered four runs (three earned) in five innings against SD last year and is 3-2 with a stifling 1.97 ERA in 32 career innings against the foes.

NY resumes a challenging 10-game road trip on Monday. They had won six in a row prior to the trek. They were able to win two of four bouts against the Dodgers on the weekend. The offense scored 15 runs in the series while the pitching was stellar as usual.

Pete Alonso was quiet against the Padres last season, posting a .217 average with only one RBI. The 27-year-old slugger is having a tremendous season, launching 17 homers with 54 RBIs and an .882 OPS. Alonso feasted on the Dodgers last weekend, bashing three homers with seven RBIs.

The Mets are averaging a stellar 5.11 runs per game, ranking them fourth overall. The pitching staff features a 3.58 team ERA, good for seventh in the Majors.

Darvish Tagged by Cardinals in Third Defeat

Yu Darvish will get the nod for the 11th time of the season in this one. Darvish was clobbered in his previous outing, squandering five runs in 7.2 innings against the Cardinals, and was charged with the loss to dip to 4-3. The veteran right-hander has been stellar in two out of his last three starts and features a 4.03 ERA and a strong 1.09 WHIP in 60.1 innings of work. Darvish allowed two runs in 5.1 innings against the Mets last season and is 3-0 with a 3.26 ERA in six career meetings against the Mets.

San Diego returns home after a seven-game road trip. They were dealt a sweep by the Cards and rebounded by winning three of four games in Milwaukee. The Padres have actually been more effective on the road. They are only three games above .500 at home.

Jake Cronenworth just had his best few games of the season, clubbing two homers with seven RBIs in two games against the Brewers. The 28-year-old shortstop has been inconsistent most of the year. Cronenworth has 26 RBIs and a .654 OPS. on the season. He went 5 for 24 against the Mets last season. Wil Myers and Tatis Jr. are out of action.

The Padres are scoring an average of 4.22 runs on the season, landing them 19th overall. The pitching has registered a 3.35 team ERA, placing them fifth in the big leagues.

The Mets lost two of four to the Dodgers on the weekend. They have now dropped four out of their last six road games entering Monday night. The Padres have won three games in a row.

Furthermore, Mets’ starter Taijuan Walker is definitely having a great season but isn’t going deep into games. He has pitched 5.2 or fewer innings in three out of his last four starts. Also, Padres’ starter Yu Darvish is very difficult to solve at home. The right-hander features a dazzling 1.71 ERA at Petco Park.

Prediction: San Diego Padres -130

Best Bets for this Game

The Dodgers have lost five of their last seven games. Even though they continue to play well offensively, they will struggle in this game because Kopech has been great on the mound for the White Sox. Kopech has only given up more than three runs in one of his nine starts this season. He has also gave up just seven total runs in four home starts this season and won’t have trouble slowing down the potent Dodgers offense. The White Sox have also struggled in recent games, but they are playing well offensively, scoring 12 total runs in their last three games. They’ve hit the ball well against right-handers and they’re facing a starter that has struggled on the mound this season, giving up 12 runs in 20.2 innings, so expect them to score a lot of runs in this game and pick up the win.

Prediction: Chicago White Sox +110
