Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has broken records all across the board since he started playing in the MLB. Even in his first few months with the Dodgers, he’s already managed to break multiple records, including Wednesday night where Ohtani set the franchise record for games with an RBI recorded.

Largest Contract in Professional Sports History

Before Shohei Ohtani even stepped foot on the field of Dodger Stadium he was already making history. In 2023, Ohtani signed a 10-year $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is the largest contract in professional sports history, ahead of Lionel Messi’s $674 million contract with FC Barcelona in 2017.

Most home runs by a Japanese-born player

On Sunday, April 21st, Ohtani became the highest home run-scoring Japanese-born player in MLB History. Previously Hideki Matsui held the record with 175, but Ohtani surpassed him a few months ago and is now sitting at 196.

Shohei Ohtani’s Career High Marks

Already Shohei Ohtani has broken multiple of his own records this season. He set career-high marks in the first 35 games of any season with 52 hits, 14 doubles, and 30 runs. In the same time frame, he also set career-high marks with a .364 batting average, a .426 on-base percentage, and a .685 slugging percentage.

Franchise Record RBI Streak

In his 79th game with the Dodgers Wednesday night, Shohei Ohtani made a hit to extend his RBI streak to 10 games, a franchise record. Previously Ohtani was tied with Roy Campanella, Augie Galan, and Eddie Brown. Ohtani has recorded 61 RBI this season already and looks to extend his streak.
