Team News:

Barcelona are dealing with a lot of injuries to key players at the moment. Star striker Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out the game, as has Sergi Roberto, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Jules Koundé. These are all players which could otherwise be expected to start. Brazilian winger Raphinha is also a doubt.

Real Madrid have a cleaner bill of health, although are still missing long-term absentees Thibault Courtois and Eder Militao. Joselu is also a doubt.

Key Players:

Barcelona: Gavi

Gavi has a point to prove. The point is that he’s the best youngster in La Liga, not his English counterpart based in Madrid. As an agile and dynamic midfielder, Gavi’s ability to cover ground, press opponents, and maintain possession under pressure will be essential in Barcelona’s quest to control the midfield battle. His vision and passing range enable him to instigate quick transitions and find key passes to unlock Real Madrid’s defence.

Real Madrid: Jude Bellingham

The Englishman has 11 goals in 12 appearances for Los Blancos, as well as three assists. He really couldn’t have started any better. He’ll be raring to go for his first taste of El Clasico action. His exceptional ball control, press resistance, and ability to withstand high-pressure situations can help Real Madrid gain dominance in the midfield battle, dictating the pace of the game and breaking through Barcelona’s press. Bellingham’s vision, quick distribution, and versatility provide Real Madrid with the means to exploit transitional opportunities, while his height and heading ability make him a potent threat during set-piece situations, offering a multi-dimensional advantage in this highly anticipated clash.

In recent years, this fixture has been pretty even, although Barcelona have won three out of the last four Clasicos. Head-to-head, Xavi just pips Carlo Ancelotti four games to three.

Barcelona are the very slight favourites to win, priced at 31/20 on bet365. Real Madrid are the marginal underdogs at 8/5 on bet365.
