2024 NFL Quarterback Rankings Week 15: The MVP Odds Improve for Josh Allen After Wild Upset Loss

The NFL had a very eventful Week 14 in the quarterback field as Josh Allen managed to strengthen his MVP case despite an upset loss against the Rams that we’ll get right into. The Raiders lost another quarterback to a season-ending injury, it’s the end of the road for Derek Carr’s 2024 season with a fractured hand, and it’s another game-winning drive for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, who are one away from tying the single-season record.

Each Wednesday at 365Scores, we are going to rank all 32 NFL quarterbacks from top to bottom. The methodology is to start with our preseason quarterback rankings from July, which was based on a mixture of career value and emphasis on recent play. Then each week, we will adjust the rankings to account for the latest game to get a sense of which quarterbacks are performing the best in the 2024 season. Injured starters will be replaced.

Note: Many statistical references will be made to data from Next Gen Stats (NGS).

1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Week 14 rank: 1 (0)

You almost never see this, but Josh Allen lost a game as a favorite against the Rams and still saw his MVP odds more than double, improving to -450 at many top-rated sportsbooks.

That’s in part because Saquon Barkley’s Eagles had a quiet game offensively and Lamar Jackson’s Ravens were on a bye week. But it’s mostly because Allen had one of the most unique six touchdown games in NFL history in the 44-42 loss, a wild game where the Rams were on point for a change this year and never allowed Buffalo to take a lead.

  • Allen joins Otto Graham (1954 NFL Championship Game) as the only quarterbacks to ever have 3 passing and 3 rushing touchdowns in a game. But Graham did it in a 56-10 win.
  • Allen became the sixth quarterback in NFL history to have three 1-yard rushing touchdowns in a game, scoring on the sneak.
  • Allen is also just the sixth player (any position) to have three 1-yard rushing touchdowns while trailing each time in a game as the Rams led wire-to-wire.
  • Two of Allen’s touchdown passes had at least 45 yards after the catch (YAC) on a screen pass to Ty Johnson and a short throw that was taken the distance with three broken tackles by Khalil Shakir.
  • Since Allen entered the league in 2018, he is the only quarterback to have two touchdown passes in a game that were throws with 5 air yards or fewer and at least 45 YAC. He has three such touchdowns this season, or as many as the rest of the NFL combined.
  • The Bills had nine possessions in the game, and they trailed by multiple scores on each of the final seven drives.
  • The only time Allen ever had the ball in the game with a deficit smaller than 7 points was on the second drive when Buffalo trailed 10-7. Allen threw three straight incompletions and the Bills’ punt was blocked for a huge touchdown by the Rams.

It was a very strange game, and it’s not like Allen didn’t play very well. It just never was in the cards for him to be in position to take the lead or even tie the game for that matter. And no matter how you slice it, “six touchdowns” is a bit misleading when you’re getting three 1-yard sneaks most quarterbacks don’t even get to attempt and two outlier YAC touchdowns that quarterbacks aren’t getting on throws that short either. It’s not nearly as impressive as it sounds.

Allen will have to step up again in Detroit too in what could easily be another shootout this week after the Bills were exposed on defense in this game. But the most troubling aspect was another late-game sequence that was botched by this Buffalo coaching staff. The Bills absolutely had to score as quickly as possible in a 9-point game and not use any of their timeouts so that they could get the ball back with some time.

But Allen again tried the sneak on 1st-and-goal and was stopped, leading to Buffalo using a timeout, killing the strategy and putting the game on an onside kick that they didn’t recover. They said that was their money play this year, but the fact is Allen has tried to run it in from the 1-yard line on four drives this year and he had to do it on multiple carries three times, including twice in this game. They should have thrown the ball even if that’s the lower-percentage play.

We’ll see what the Bills have for an encore in Detroit, because that was supposed to be the harder game to win than this one against the Rams.

2. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Week 14 rank: 2 (0)

More than usual, every Kansas City game is starting to look the same. They just pulled off another 19-17 win at home in a divisional rematch that was low on possessions and turnovers. They blew a 13-point lead in the blink of an eye, they had protection problems that were exacerbated by Andy Reid forgetting they can run the football too, and they needed yet another game-winning drive at the end.

But when you have Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, you can still win games like this as he covers up a lot of warts. On the latest game-winning drive for the Chiefs, Mahomes had a couple of third-down conversions for the highlight reel, including this perfect escape to throw with both feet off the ground to Xavier Worthy to convert a 3rd-and-10:

Then the play of the game was his scramble on 3rd-and-7 before finding Travis Kelce for another conversion that allowed the Chiefs to make their field goal the final snap. Another win, another AFC West title, and another step closer to the No. 1 seed after Buffalo lost Sunday. The Chiefs almost let this opportunity slip by, but their 2024 season has been filled of “almost losing” moments. It’s only led to a 12-1 record and one of the best shots yet of anyone pulling off a Super Bowl three-peat.

But Mahomes will have to be concerned with his offensive tackles going up against fronts like Cleveland and Houston these next two weeks. D.J. Humphries got his first action all season on Sunday night, and it went about as you’d expect for a player who just joined the team and hasn’t played football since 2023 ended. Then he was injured in the game, and the Chiefs still went empty set with the problematic Wanya Morris at left tackle. But Mahomes made it work out.

They’re just really stretching how much your quarterback can overcome to keep winning games this close every week.

3. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Week 14 rank: 3 (0)

The bye week probably came at the best time for the Ravens (8-5) to heal up and get Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry ready for this stretch run. Will we see more running from Jackson as he hinted at with a request from his mother after the Philadelphia loss. But he might not need to do it much against the lowly Giants this week.

Save your legs for the Steelers in Week 16, because they’ll be coming in with the division title in mind. Jackson still has a shot to overcome the MVP hype for Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley to win his third award if he can run the table with some huge games coming up, but he’s going to have to finish against the Steelers in Week 16 first. That defense has his number.

4. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

Week 14 rank: 4 (0)

I don’t know how much we’ll really be entertaining the Jared Goff MVP campaign, but this is the month for him to make his case after a 34-31 win against the Packers, and now he gets the Bills in a major showdown this week. But against Green Bay, Goff had a strong night with 32-of-41 passing for 283 yards and 3 touchdowns. It wasn’t the most dominant ground performance from his running backs, Amon-Ra St. Brown only had 43 yards, and Goff had to get other people involved while also leading a game-winning drive and converting multiple fourth downs on the night.

But the most egregious play would have been if Goff tripped and didn’t get the handoff to his back on the crucial fourth down on the winning drive. Fortunately, Goff got the ball away as he wasn’t down after tripping, and the Lions converted and won on a field goal.

But Sunday will be a big test for Goff as he has to expect a shootout with Buffalo and a need to score at least 30 points to win that one. His defense is very injured right now, and it has fallen apart in the second half of the last two games, so it could be another chance for Goff to outduel another top quarterback this season in Josh Allen.

5. Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings

Week 14 rank: 8 (+3)

I’m not sure anyone really was upset that the Vikings moved on from Kirk Cousins in 2024. But even though this was supposed to be rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s team, it’s been the Sam Darnold Show in 2024, and Sunday was arguably his best game yet with 347 yards and 5 touchdown passes in a 42-21 win against Cousins’ Falcons.

Darnold continues to be outstanding at getting the ball down the field to his weapons as Jordan Addison (3) and Justin Jefferson (2) caught all of the touchdowns. But this play in particular to Jefferson for a touchdown was hands down the funniest play of Week 14. Just watch No. 20 Dee Alford, who allowed three touchdowns in the game:

6. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Week 14 rank: 5 (-1)

The bye week should be more beneficial to Jayden Daniels and Washington than most teams who finally had their bye in Week 14. Let those ribs heal, let him crunch some tape on the season to see where he can get better, and hopefully, they can finish strong against a favorable schedule with some confidence going into the playoffs.

7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

Week 14 rank: 6 (-1)

Justin Herbert is now 1-7 against the Chiefs when Patrick Mahomes starts. But Sunday night was already the fourth time he put the Chargers ahead in the fourth quarter only to go on to lose the game, something Mahomes is great at doing to teams.

It was going to be a tough night without J.K. Dobbins and Ladd McConkey, but the Chargers actually scored more points (17) without those players in this game than they did at home in Week 4 (10) with those players available. But Herbert did have his team ahead with a late field goal before the defense gave up a walk-off field goal to the Chiefs this time.

McConkey might have been able to make a difference in this game, but hopefully, he’ll be back soon as the Chargers (8-5) still need a win or two to lock down this playoff spot now that the Chiefs have won the AFC West again.

8. Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers

Week 14 rank: 7 (-1)

Russell Wilson had a very slow start against the Browns and didn’t throw the ball nearly as well as he did in the snow in Cleveland two weeks earlier. But he was also making a very late adjustment to not having George Pickens, a surprise inactive with a hamstring injury. The Steelers didn’t seem to plan for that well, and it took a few quarters for them to finally start utilizing their other weapons like big Mike Williams and tight end Pat Freiermuth.

But Wilson avoided turnovers, only took one sack this time, and he threw two touchdowns to help the Steelers to a 10th win this season. However, his task in Philadelphia against a good secondary, and possibly without Pickens again, will be more daunting this week.

9. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Week 14 rank: 9 (0)

Joe Burrow finally led his first game-winning drive in two full years on Monday night in Dallas. Sure, it took the Cowboys touching a blocked punt in an absurd moment for the Bengals to get the ball back after some struggles for Burrow in the second half with a pick and multiple sacks taken.

But Ja’Marr Chase showed us why he deserves to be the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history when he took a short pass from Burrow the distance for the game-winning touchdown. Chase dominated on a night where Tee Higgins had just two catches.

That leaves the Bengals (5-8) with a sliver of playoff hope, but they still have no margin of error and do not control their own destiny.

10. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Week 14 rank: 11 (+1)

It was a slow start for Jordan Love in Detroit, but you can’t blame him for Christian Watson fumbling a big completion. After that, the Packers scored on five of their last six drives. Love led a go-ahead touchdown drive and a game-tying field goal drive the last two times he touched the ball before the Lions ran out the clock to win on a field goal in a 34-31 final.

Love hasn’t thrown any interceptions in his last three games after throwing at least one in each of the first eight games this season. You have to respect his chances in Detroit if there’s a Round 3 in the playoffs.

11. Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

Week 14 rank: 13 (+2)

See, they just had to get him out of the snow. Brock Purdy shredded the Bears in a 38-13 rout, the fourth game in his career where he averaged at least 13 yards per pass attempt. Purdy spread the ball around to his receivers with big plays from multiple weapons on his way to 325 passing yards.

But we’ll see how Purdy does in this rematch Thursday night with the Rams. It was in the first matchup where he had one of the best games of his career, but the 49ers wasted it with dropped passes and a blown lead.

12. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Week 14 rank: 15 (+3)

Stafford has been on a heater for the last month ever since that stinker against the Dolphins. But that’s a funny example of how the NFL works. The Rams couldn’t find the end zone once at home in a bad loss to the mediocre Dolphins, yet they lit up the Bills, the “best team in the AFC” according to some, for 44 points in a wire-to-wire win on Sunday to get to 7-6.

But Puka Nacua (162 yards) was absolutely incredible for Stafford in that game, and Cooper Kupp also made some vintage plays that looked like 2021 all over again. That duo is as good as it gets right now when they’re healthy and Stafford has enough time to throw to them.

But he’ll need another special performance to deal with the 49ers on Thursday night and keep this division title push going another week.

13. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Week 14 rank: 12 (-1)

Baker Mayfield has already thrown as many touchdowns (28) this season as he did in 17 games last season, and he’s done it on 130 fewer pass attempts. The only issue is he’s also thrown three more interceptions than he did last year on that many fewer attempts.

So, you’re getting a little Jameis Winston feast or famine with Baker this year, and that was on display in the 28-13 win over the Raiders on Sunday. Mayfield went from a 14-0 lead with a couple of touchdowns to three turnovers in the second quarter, leading to a team sweating out a small lead in the fourth quarter before Mayfield put it away with a couple of quick touchdown drives.

But the good news is the Buccaneers are 7-6 and back in first place in the NFC South with some more very winnable games ahead on the schedule. They could lose to the Chargers on the road this week and still finish 10-7 if they win out against the Cowboys (no Dak Prescott), Panthers, and Saints (no Derek Carr).

14. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

Week 14 rank: 18 (+4)

Tua Tagovailoa coming back from his fourth NFL concussion and rallying the Dolphins to the playoffs would be a heck of a story this season. But it’s going to take some big efforts in the next two weeks against the Texans and 49ers as well as some help from teams like the Broncos and Chargers losing games.

But Miami (6-7) is still alive after coming back in the fourth quarter to beat the Jets in overtime. Tua was 33-of-47 for 331 yards and threw a game-winning touchdown pass to tight end Jonnu Smith, who didn’t even have a catch in regulation before coming through big on the game-winning drive with three big grabs.

In the seven games since his return, Tagovailoa has thrown 15 touchdowns to 1 interception, he’s completing 76.1% of his passes, 7.5 yards per attempt, and he has a 114.1 passer rating. Miami has also scored at least 27 points in 5-of-7 games, so that’s usually going to be enough to win most games.

But we know road games against good teams is the bugaboo for this Miami team and Tua. Their only such game left this season is this week in Houston, so let’s see how that goes before we start seriously entertaining this playoff talk.

But Tua’s play since returning is very encouraging after a terrible start to the season in Miami.

15. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Week 14 rank: 10 (-5)

When asked what the Eagles need to improve on with the offense, No. 1 wide receiver A.J. Brown said “passing” as a one-word answer. I would have assumed it was a troll account on social media that was spreading this drama, but then I saw the video with my own eyes, and he does look like a disgruntled wide receiver after the Eagles had a scare in a 22-16 final against lowly Carolina.

It’s cool that they want to get Saquon Barkley to 2,000 rushing yards, but not if it’s coming at the expense of getting the job done through the air to score enough points to comfortably win the game. Against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, Jalen Hurts was 14-of-21 for 108 yards and he took 4 sacks. That’s not good enough.

Hurts was able to run for 59 yards and a touchdown to make his overall numbers look better, but you don’t want to be having to come from behind at home against a team like the Panthers when you’re favored by two touchdowns. How’s that going to stand up in the playoffs against teams like the Lions, Vikings, and Packers who can score and defend better than Carolina?

Hurts hasn’t passed for 120 yards in back-to-back games. He hasn’t passed for 180 yards in three straight games as the narrative push for a Barkley MVP took over. Let’s see what he does this week against the Steelers, a secondary that will give up plays to veteran passers, now that the wideouts are clearly grumbling about a lack of passing production in Philly.

16. Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

Week 14 rank: 16 (0)

Geno Smith had his cleanest game of the season without any sacks (first game all year) or interceptions. He was also 24-of-30 for 233 yards with a touchdown pass in a very efficient 30-18 win over the Cardinals on the road. Smith is now 6-0 as a starter against the Cardinals since 2022, and that’s going to go a long way in helping the Seahawks win the NFC West if they close strong.

17. C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

Week 14 rank: 14 (-3)

The Texans (8-5) had their bye week and are still in no real danger of not winning their division even though they have difficult games ahead with the Chiefs and Ravens. But C.J. Stroud better show up this week against Miami as Tua Tagovailoa is playing well and that team still has playoff aspirations. Things have just been a bit off for Houston for most of this season. There is no debating that Stroud’s rookie season was more impressive than what he’s done in 2024 to this point.

18. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Week 14 rank: 17 (-1)

Ever since Kyler Murray had that nearly perfect game against the Jets, the Cardinals are 0-3, he’s doubled his interception count on the season in the last two weeks alone, and he hasn’t had a 20-yard run since the Chargers game.

The Seahawks have been kryptonite for Murray, who is 2-8 against them in his career, and he hasn’t scored more than 21 points against them in any of his last five meetings. It should be studied how he’s yet to throw a touchdown to tight end Trey McBride this year despite McBride’s 106 targets, 80 catches, and 851 receiving yards.

The Cardinals (6-7) have a couple of very winnable games with the Patriots and Panthers here to get back to a winning record, but the Seattle sweep is likely going to cost them a division title this year.

19. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

Week 14 rank: 19 (0)

The Broncos (8-5) had their bye week and have a very important game up next with the Colts at home as they look to clinch a wild card berth. Bo Nix is second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year odds, but he just needs to focus on some winning football in the next month, avoiding mistakes and remembering that he has a good defense to keep him in games.

20. Jameis Winston, Cleveland Browns

Week 14 rank: 20 (0)

The full Jameis experience was on display again in Pittsburgh, but unlike his first-ever snow game in Week 12 against this defense, he couldn’t keep the balance of good plays to bad ones in his favor, and the Browns lost 27-14.

Winston double-clutched on a screen that ended up getting intercepted, which helped spark a stagnant Pittsburgh offense with a short field for a touchdown. That really turned the tide of the game after Winston struck first with a 35-yard touchdown to Jerry Jeudy. But he wouldn’t find the end zone again until it was too little too late.

Winston gets the Chiefs at home next, a defense that is really struggling right now to get any takeaways and stop big throws down the field. It could be another stunning Winston stat line, but we’ll have to see what he comes up with as the Chiefs are due for some picks.

21. Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets

Week 14 rank: 23 (+2)

For the first time since 2021, Aaron Rodgers finally had a 300-yard passing game with 339 yards in Miami. He led the Jets to scores on their first five drives, led a go-ahead field goal drive late in the fourth quarter, and then still watched the team blow the lead and lose in overtime, producing the fifth blown lead loss for the Jets in 2024.

Remember, we just looked at how it took 10 seasons and 137 starts for Tom Brady in New England to see his team blow five leads. This is in 13 starts this season for the Jets for Rodgers, and now the team has been eliminated from the playoffs, extending the longest playoff drought in North American sports to 14 seasons.

It was the drought that Rodgers was supposed to end, but so many things have gone wrong for the Jets this year. If they lose to the Jaguars this week, you have to assume it’s tanking at this point.

22. Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers

Week 14 rank: 25 (+3)

I’m starting to believe in Bryce Young, especially for 2025 if the Panthers can get it together with a better roster. Week 14 is going to show a 22-16 loss in Philadelphia despite the Panthers being a 13.5-point underdog, but that doesn’t begin to describe how well Young played on what should have been a 97-yard go-ahead touchdown drive with under 40 seconds to play.

Unfortunately, rookie wideout Xavier Legette dropped a great throw from Young that should have been the go-ahead touchdown:

The Panthers screwed up the rest of the drive with a penalty and Young unable to convert on fourth down. But he made several standout plays on that drive, and it should have been the third game in a row where he put the Panthers in a tie or ahead with a division leader in the final minutes after doing so to the Chiefs and Buccaneers the last two weeks.

Keep the faith, Carolina fans. Young might be salvageable after all.

23. Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints

Week 14 rank: 22 (-1)

Rough week for quarterback injuries after a 2024 season that has been relatively not bad in that department. It appears Derek Carr’s season is over after he fractured his non-throwing hand in the 14-11 win against the Giants.

Carr got off to that incredible 2-0 start this year, which we can see in hindsight was heavily influenced by going play-action pass against some putrid defenses like the Panthers and Cowboys. But things fell apart after that, the wide receivers kept getting injured, Carr was injured, and now he’s injured again after being an Ironman for most of his career.

24. Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons

Week 14 rank: 24 (0)

Kirk Cousins is the ultimate .500 quarterback in NFL history, so a 4-game losing streak is very unlike him. In fact, Cousins is the first quarterback since Brett Favre on the 2005 Packers to go four straight games with no touchdown passes, at least one interception, and at least 25 pass attempts. The NFL record streak is five games by Jim Plunkett for the 1972 Patriots.

To make matters worse for Cousins, this latest loss saw him completely outshined by his Minnesota replacement, Sam Darnold, who threw five touchdown passes. In trying to keep up in the fourth quarter, Cousins was intercepted on a one-handed catch by Byron Murphy.

The Falcons insist they’re sticking with Cousins and not going to rookie Michael Penix Jr., and that’s probably the right call. But it’s sure not going to make the decision on what to do next any easier for 2025 if Cousins doesn’t get it together now that the Falcons (6-7) have fallen behind Tampa Bay (7-6) in the NFC South.

25. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Week 14 rank: 21 (-4)

Caleb Williams’ defense was so putrid in San Francisco that winning the game was never a real possibility. However, he has to start getting rid of the ball faster and stop taking so many sacks. He is now up to 56 sacks on the season, so it’s possible he breaks that single-season record.

The first game without Matt Eberflus as his head coach was a disaster for Williams, despite his passing stat line that didn’t look terrible (17-of-23 for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns). But when you’re waiting until it’s 24-0 to score anything and you’re taking 7 sacks, those numbers are very hollow.

Also, the Tuck Rule was eliminated in 2013. Caleb can’t have plays like this again:

26. Drake Maye, New England Patriots

Week 14 rank: 28 (+2)

The Patriots had their bye week. It’s going to be a lousy record for Drake Maye as a rookie, but what did you expect? He’ll get a good look at the Bills twice as well as the No. 1 scoring defense in the Chargers. Every week is a good learning experience, and his season actually hasn’t been that bad at all given the circumstances in New England these days.

27. Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts

Week 14 rank: 29 (+2)

The Colts had their bye week, so hopefully Anthony Richardson used that time wisely. He still ranks dead last in completion percentage (47.4%) as every other qualified quarterback is at 59% or higher. His interception rate (4.2%) is also easily the highest in the league this season.

28. Mac Jones, Jacksonville Jaguars

Week 14 rank: N/A (Trevor Lawrence was No. 27)

How bad were the Titans on Sunday? Pretty bad when you let Mac Jones improve to 3-14 at game-winning drive opportunities after he threw two picks earlier. But if you take away the picks, Jones was 23-of-29 for 220 yards. That’s going to move the football even if the team only scored 10 points, but that was all they needed for the win this week.

With Trevor Lawrence likely done for the season, this is what we’re stuck with from the Jacksonville passing game. At least rookie wideout Brian Thomas Jr. looks very good as advertised.

29. Cooper Rush, Dallas Cowboys

Week 14 rank: 30 (+1)

It looked like Cooper Rush had a big game brewing against a terrible Cincinnati defense after a strong first quarter. But by the end of the night, he threw a pick, he only passed for 183 yards, and he lost 27-20 as he couldn’t move the ball on the team’s final three drives, a huge disappointment against a defense of this caliber.

For the love of God, the Cowboys are supposed to host Tampa Bay on Sunday Night Football in Week 16. They need to flex that game out and spare us any more Dallas games in prime time.

30. Aidan O’Connell, Las Vegas Raiders

Week 14 rank: 26 (-4)

After already losing quarterback Gardner Minshew to a season-ending injury, bad luck has struck the Raiders again as Aidan O’Connell’s 2024 season is over after he injured his knee in Tampa Bay. It is unclear what the exact issue is, but he was shoved down on a play that didn’t look too bad. But he left the game with an air cast, so it’s going to be Desmond Ridder as next man up.

The season can’t end fast enough for this team.

31. Will Levis, Tennessee Titans

Week 14 rank: 31 (0)

I’m officially out on Will Levis again. Even in a prime matchup with the terrible Jacksonville pass defense, he couldn’t lead a single touchdown drive in a 10-6 loss. The Titans had three drives end with a turnover on downs as Levis couldn’t make anything happen in the red zone. You can’t afford to lose a single game when you only allow 10 points.

Levis’ 30.5 QBR is by far the lowest of any quarterback still starting games this season. The next closest is Chicago rookie Caleb Williams (46.4), who takes a beating in this metric for the beating he gets into with sacks. But Levis has been held under 20 points in 14 of his 19 career starts for the Titans.

32. Drew Lock, New York Giants

Week 14 rank: 32 (0)

You just have to laugh at the New York Giants sometimes. They wanted to move on from Daniel Jones, and here they are starting a quarterback in Drew Lock, who started 0-for-8 passing in Sunday’s loss. Somehow, they’ve landed on another quarterback who is at his best when he’s running for his life.

Lock joins Michael Vick (2006), Donovan McNabb (2003), and Troy Aikman (1989) as the only four quarterbacks in NFL history to have consecutive games where they rushed for over 50 yards while averaging under 5.7 yards per pass attempt (min. 30 passes).

Even in a game where he threw 28 incomplete passes, Lock was still a 35-yard field goal away from overtime with the Saints in a 14-11 game. But the kick was expertly blocked, and the game ended before it should have, which sounds like sweet mercy for a game involving the Giants.
